You know someone is sad, when their favorite song comes out and they don’t sing along
God gave all of us a light from childhood. A divine flicker of creativity and closeness to him. As you get older, the world puts thoughts in your head and tries harder and harder to extinguish that light. HOLD ON TO THAT LIGHT. That light is faith. That light is the goodness of God. Hold on to that light.
It’s important to make friendships that are deeper than gossiping and drinking and smoking and going out.
Make friends who you can go get breakfast with, make friends you can cry with, make friends who support your life goals and believe in you.
Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.
Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet (via surbeat)
Wow. I was just thinking last night, “I have loved what is ‘impossible’ to love and forgiven what is ‘impossible’ to forgive.” People and events that used to terrify me — until I faced them… and looked through the fear… and saw the sameness of essence… and now when I think of them, I almost always smile to myself and feel overcome gratitude.
This is what truth feels like. It feels like love.
